Vintage Nature Collections

"A carefully laid out collection of eggs bought from a farmer who gathered them in the 1950's".

A striking butterfly collection sits alongside an oil painting and a boat propellor.
Just some vintage nature collection porn for a Tuesday evening. See the rest of this Victorian seaside cottage and its collections here.

Inspiration Profile - Erini Kaldelis and Scott Compton, NumberNineWire

We have a great Inspiration Profile to finish off the week. Welcome to NumberNineWire - Erini Kaldelis and Scott Compton. Recently arriving to New Zealand shores, Kaldelis returns to her hometown while Compton is from London. Both are interior designers and it is great to feature them today. Enjoy.

Erini Kaldelis
Name: Erini Kaldelis and Scott Compton

What do you do: We are both Interior Designers who have very recently started an online creative web-site called NumberNinewire.  We are new to the New Zealand scene and we are keen to establish links in the creative community, our intention is to become a valuable part of the community, and our first offering is an online magazine which celebrates all things related to design and creativity.

Where do you live: Erini has recently moved back from working in London for 5.5 years and Scott is from England and has recently moved to New Zealand.
What are you working on: We are currently both working on workplace interior design work.  Otherwise we work on NumberNinewire outside design work, as any new project goes it is keeping us both very busy!
GREY's London office designed by BDG Workfutures, led by Scott Compton.

Southwark Council HQ, London - another BDG Workfutures design with Kaldelis as designer.

Who/what inspires me: Any form of good quality design that has been thought out and well considered, whether it is an interior, graphics, architecture, branding, film, piece of music, fashion, a floral arrangement.
Meeting and if lucky enough to work with people that are truly passionate about what they do, love what they do and inspire others along the way.

I work best:  Now we are in New Zealand, in the morning after a good coffee - London just does not do good coffee!
What I do when I’m stuck for inspiration:  Often speaking to like minded people can be most helpful as they are fresh with their eyes and ideas!   It can be easy to get tunnel vision with your work, stepping away and coming back can change your perspective and see opportunities you didn’t see before.
We both have other interests - Scott plays guitar and for years played in a band in London and Erini has completed a floristry course and did flower arranging in London and hopefully again in Wellington.

Hummingbird Eatery and Bar - N9W recently reviewed its new fitout. Read it here.
French movie Ma Part de Gateau - read the review by N9W here.

The best advice I have been given is: Be like little children - when children stumble and fall  they may cry for a bit, but then they stand up and carry on.  In the same way, we too have to be persistent like little children.  You have to pick yourself up and carry on.

My latest discovery is: The new Tommy Millions on the corner of Courtenay Place and Taranaki Street - you can’t bet fresh pizza and gelato in the middle of Wellington.  A fantastic change to the old men’s toilets as well.
Books that I get inspiration from:  Currently the recently covered Penguin books - they are just beautiful.  Especially the books by F. Scott Fitzgerald, we could not resist purchasing a set.
Penguin cloth bound classics
Notting Hill Girls by N9W's friend, Antony Nobilo, a NZ photographer working in London.
He is featured on N9W - read about him here.

Magazines that inspire me: Mark, Elle Decoration, Detail, The Architects Journal, Interior, Urbis, IDN, Folio, I.D. and a range of graphics and branding magazines
My favourite room at home is: The kitchen - as we both really enjoy cooking, eating and socializing with our friends and family.  It is always warm and cosy and a good place to catch up after a day at work.
Check out the N9W website here and read all their great articles, reviews and news. You can also follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

Azure office by Makhno - inspiring use of colour and texture.
Johnny Cash by Travis Small - a N9W music favourite.
All photographs collaborated and used with permission from Erini Kaldelis and Scott Compton.

Maison de Bibby

Here is Maison de Bibby, a mini boutique hotel created by Anna Bibby, a former gallery owner from Auckland, New Zealand. Maison de Bibby is located in the village of Martel in south west France and this beautifully restored 18th century stone town house is filled with antiques from the region and contemporary New Zealand art. HOME New Zealand magazine did a great cover story on this boutique hotel earlier this year.

Maison Rika Guest House in Amsterdam

Here is Maison Rika, a guest house above the Rika fashion showroom in Amsterdam. The mastermind behind the Rika store and guest house is Ulrika Lundgren, a Swedish-born former fashion stylist now designer. This is one great and stylish place to stay at.
